Weld Technician 1
This is an hourly union represented position. Local UE 506
Starting wage: $24.97

Position Summary:
Weld Technician is responsible for cutting and joining various types of metals and materials for locomotive components. You will operate appropriate equipment to construct mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your job is important as it delivers the foundation for strong infrastructure of our products. A Weld Technician must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment while following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail.
Major Responsibilities:
- Braze, spot weld, ARC, MIG, TIG, submerged ARC, flux core, robotic weld and locomotive weld
- Make layouts, assemble and weld using fixtures or templates.
- Able to perform prep, grinding, snagging, and clean-up of welded areas, etc.
- Ability to read and understand complex blueprints/scales/third angle projections.
- Read blueprints and scales.
- Perform operations on saw, punch press as required.
- Ability to operate a crane and forklift.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 5+ years’ experience in welding using ARC, MIG, and flux core processes.
- Must be willing and able to work any shift
Preferred:
- Welding certification
Functional Requirements:
- Ability to climb repeatedly and work from heights off ladders, platforms, and scaffolds.
- Repeated bending
- Exposure to constant noise 90 DBA
- Exposure to fumes/smoke from burning, paint vapors, and dust.
- Prolonged walking/standing.
- Heavy lifting 45+ lbs.
