Primary Role of the Wabtec Welder

 Welders at Wabtec are accountable for providing support to End of Car Cushion Units by performing various tasks such as welding, disassembly, assembly, cleaning, requalification, and rework of components. They also serve as inspectors to guarantee that all weld work meets specified quality standards.

Work schedule for the 1st shift is Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 am to 3:30 pm.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and weld components for End of Car Cushion Units.
  • Utilize various tools including weld torches, plasma cutters, electric/pneumatic tools, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
  • May assist in other product lines within the facility.
  • Weld metal components according to layout, blueprints, diagrams, or standard operating procedures using electric arc-welding equipment.
  • Utilize standard GMAW processes and applications to join various material types and thicknesses together in accordance with site specifications..

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Successful completion of MIG/GMAW training course/program OR minimum 1 year of experience as a MIG/GMAW welder
  • Ability to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead)
  • Ability to pass Qualification/Certification after 180 days, following AWS-D15.1 Guidelines
  • Willingness to complete some general assembly work
  • Ability to read simple to complex blue prints and manufacturing instructions
  • Ability to lift material up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear PPE such as a respirator, weld jackets, gloves, welder hoods, ear plugs, and proper eye protection

 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical School certification preferred
  • Knowledge of EHS procedures and policies
  • Ability to use manual equipment and hand tools safely
  • Working knowledge of inspection measurement equipment
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality procedures in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Prior fork truck and overhead crane experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
