Weld Technician 1

This is an hourly union represented position. Local UE 506
Starting wage: $24.97

Position Summary:

Weld Technician is responsible for cutting and joining various types of metals and materials for locomotive components.  You will operate appropriate equipment to construct mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your job is important as it delivers the foundation for strong infrastructure of our products. A Weld Technician must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment while following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Braze, spot weld, ARC, MIG, TIG, submerged ARC, flux core, robotic weld and locomotive weld
  • Make layouts, assemble and weld using fixtures or templates.
  • Able to perform prep, grinding, snagging, and clean-up of welded areas, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand complex blueprints/scales/third angle projections.
  • Read blueprints and scales.
  • Perform operations on saw, punch press as required.
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years’ experience in welding using ARC, MIG, and flux core processes.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift

Preferred:

  • Welding certification

Functional Requirements:

  • Ability to climb repeatedly and work from heights off ladders, platforms, and scaffolds.
  • Repeated bending
  • Exposure to constant noise 90 DBA
  • Exposure to fumes/smoke from burning, paint vapors, and dust.
  • Prolonged walking/standing.
  • Heavy lifting 45+ lbs.
