Locomotive/Engine Test Technician (UE 506)

This is an hourly union represented position. Local UE 506
Starting wage: $31.40

Position Summary:

The Locomotive/Engine Test Technician is responsible for the testing and diagnostics of all electrical and mechanical systems on a locomotive and locomotive sub-assemblies including, but not limited to, complicated circuits, electrical measurements, air brake systems, diesel engines and interactions between all systems.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, adjust, troubleshoot and repair all defects found during testing
  • Conduct track testing of all types of locomotives and be expected to follow all rules pertaining to the operation of a locomotive
  • Calculate and record data; data may have to be compiled into test reports for record keeping
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting light rail vehicles, locomotives and/or coaches
  •  Perform, with the use of mechanical drawings, schematics and location circuit plans, electrical and mechanical repairs of various components
  •  Use laptops with subsystem software to troubleshoot and test electrical, hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems
  • Diagnose electrical malfunctions in passenger rail control circuits and components, assess the nature of problems, and identify corrective action needed
  • Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prefer Associates degree in an Electrical/Mechanical discipline or related technical discipline
  •  5+ years’ experience in electrical and mechanical diagnostics
  • Knowledge of AC / DC theory, Digital Electronics, and Fiber Optics
  • Knowledge and/or training in Pneumatic Air Systems
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift
  • Must be willing to work in tobacco/smoke free environment

Functional Requirements:

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in any combination / concentration in Quality, Safety, Environmental, Lean, and HPWT philosophies
  • Ability to climb repeatedly and work from heights off ladders, platforms, and scaffolds
  • Exposure to constant noise 90 DBA
  • Exposure to fumes/smoke from burning, paint vapors, and dust
  • Prolonged walking/standing
  • Heavy lifting 45+ lbs
